Cyber Awareness

Stay Safe Online.
We've Got Your Back.

Your IT team put together this quick guide to help you recognize threats and stay protected in your daily work.

Were you just flagged by your email security tool?

Flagged emails often contain sensitive information that was blocked to protect you and your company. Sensitive data should always be shared securely, never through plain email. If you believe this was blocked in error or need a secure way to share this data, please contact IT immediately.

Password & Credential Security

  • Never share passwords via email, Teams, Slack, or text message.
  • Use unique, complex passwords for every single account.
  • Always use a company-approved Password Manager to store and generate credentials.
  • Be highly suspicious of any communication asking you to "verify" or "update" your login information.

Financial & Wire Fraud Awareness

  • Never act on payment, wire, or direct deposit instructions sent via email alone.
  • Always verify financial requests with a known, trusted phone number (not the number in the email).
  • Wire fraud is the #1 email scam targeting businesses today.
  • When in doubt about a financial transaction, pick up the phone and call.

How to Spot a Phishing Email

  • Watch out for urgent, threatening, or overly enticing language designed to make you act quickly.
  • Check the sender's address carefully. Ensure it perfectly matches the organization's official domain.
  • Be extremely suspicious of unexpected attachments or links, even from people you know.
  • Never enter your credentials on a page you reached by clicking an email link. Navigate to the site manually.

Reporting Suspicious Emails

  • Use the designated 'Report Phishing' button in Outlook or your email client if available.
  • Forward suspicious emails to your dedicated IT security contact or helpdesk.
  • If you clicked a link or opened an attachment, call IT immediately. Do not wait.
  • When in doubt, report it. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

General Security Best Practices

  • Lock your screen (Windows Key + L or Command + Control + Q) whenever you step away from your device.
  • Never plug unknown USB drives or external devices into your computer.
  • Keep your software, browsers, and operating systems updated when prompted by IT.
  • Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on all accounts, both personal and professional.
